Some awesome

Posted by chris on Jan 11th, 2011 1 comment

The other night, I got a call from my friend Corey, inviting me to Will’s to join them and “cook a bunch of awesome shit.” So Corey, Courtenay and I walked over to Will’s and we cooked a bunch of awesome shit.

For those who aren’t familiar with the official definition, “awesome shit” refers to: wild Alaskan king salmon, shrimp and the not pictured: kale, asparagus, mashed potatoes, lamb and artichoke pesto.

Glutton edition

On Monday, Annie and I cooked dinner while watching It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. But before we could cook, she had to work on some nerd stuff and I had to eat slightly healthy things:

Now that we got that out the way…

  • Shrimp with cocktail sauce from Whole Foods. I ate it while cooking dinner, forgetting for the thousandth time that Annie doesn’t like shrimp (Who doesn’t like shrimp?! Nobody, that’s who.)
  • All natural rib-eye steak (lots of marbling!), pan-fried with butter and chopped garlic, seasoned with truffle salt & black pepper
  • Sauteed & broiled organic russet potatoes with extra virgin olive oil, butter, rosemary, garlic, Lawry’s seasoning salt and black pepper
  • Sauteed organic California-grown green beans, wrapped in prosciutto
  • Sauteed organic asparagus, wrapped in bacon
  • 337 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

In my defense

As you can see above, I ate sliced apples, a protein+fiber bar and a protein+antioxidant drink before cooking. What you don’t see, is that Annie had two espresso chocolate chip cookies and garlic+herb baked veggie chips before dinner. [Brushes dirt off his shoulder.]

Grocery list

Posted by chris on Apr 16th, 2008 add a comment

Since Annie and I like to inform each other of our latest grocery conquests, here’s a list of food I’ve bought this past week or so:

nature’s candy:

  • Red, seedless grapes
  • Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries (organic)
  • Dried fruit bars

human’s candy:

  • Cappuccino almonds
  • Lemon honey almonds
  • Espresso gelato
  • Dark chocolate almond Laceys (review)
  • Espresso chocolate chip cookies

all that non-candy stuff:

  • White mushrooms
  • Portobello mushrooms
  • Sliced pepperoni
  • Sliced prosciutto
  • Uncooked shrimp
  • Wild citrus salmon
  • Pizza sauce
  • Fresh mozzarella (ovalini)
  • Fresh mozzarella (bocconcini)
  • Whole wheat pita bread (organic)
  • Herb bread (organic)

I don’t always have hours to slave over a homemade pizza (but I wish I did). So lately I’ve been using pita bread as the crust for some quick mini-pizzas. I have some leftover chicken, pesto and smoked mozzarella and a really great BBQ sauce (which I’ll review later) so I’m able to mix up the toppings quite a bit. One of my favorites: marinara sauce, fresh mozzarella, pepperoni and shrimp that’s been sautéed garlic, herbs and red wine.

As I post more of these lists, I suspect I’m gonna feel more and more guilty about the obscene amounts of chocolate I consume to power through my days. But that’s okay. It will simply spiral me into a deep depression that will lead to more of that sweet, sweet chocolate.
